In the summer of 2019, a volunteer raised money for her gardening project with the children at the San Leandro Shelter. Over $1,000 was raised in the space of a month, double our initial goal! The volunteer used email and social media and secured donations from all over the country, used to purchase soil, plants, paint and more!

These resilient children are living in an emergency homeless shelter with their mothers and they had a chance to connect with the beauty and power of the earth through the magic of gardening. The children learned about nature cycles, and how to grow their own food, and created something beautiful that they can be proud of and had lots of fun with their hands in the dirt!

Now, the residents of the shelter are able to enjoy fresh herbs, veggies and fruit in planters lovingly decorated by the children.
